American Gilsonite Company engages in mining, processing, and supplying Gilsonite, a naturally occurring hydrocarbon resin. The company offers Gilsonite cementing grade for primary cementing operations in drilling environments; and Gilsonite oil-based and water-based products to provide sealing off permeable formations during drilling fluids. Its Gilsonite is used as a performance additive in oil and gas drilling; an additive in high-performance inks for newspapers, magazines, and other publications; anticorrosive paints, underbody paints, and pipe coatings; asphalt-impregnated fiberboards production for construction applications; and foundries. The company’s Gilsonite is also used as a binder modifier for hot mix pavements and pavement sealers. It sells its products through distributors. It serves oil and gas markets, including drilling fluids and cementing; and industrial markets, such as asphalt, foundry, and inks, paints, and stains. American Gilsonite Company was formerly known as Barber Asphalt Company and changed its name to American Gilsonite Company in 1948. The company was founded in 1886 and is based in Bonanza, Utah. American Gilsonite Company operates as a subsidiary of American Gilsonite Holding Company.
