As of September 30, 2009, Petrobras Energía Participaciones S.A. was acquired by Petrobras Argentina SA. Petrobras Energia Participaciones S.A., through its subsidiary, Petrobras Energia S.A., engages in the exploration and production of oil and gas properties. It has exploration operations in Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Colombia, as well as acts as a contractor, and provides technical and operating support in Mexico. The company also involves in refining and distribution operations; electricity generation, transmission, and distribution; and oil, gas, and LPG brokerage and trading activities. In addition, Petrobras Energia Participaciones produces petrochemicals comprising styrene, polystyrene, synthetic rubber, and fertilizers. As of December 31, 2008, it had combined crude oil and natural gas proved reserves of 433 million barrels of oil equivalent; had interests in 50 blocks, including 27 oil and gas production blocks and 23 exploration blocks; and operated 2 refineries and a network of 644 gas stations in Argentina. The company, formerly known as Perez Companc S.A., was founded in 1946 and is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
