As of October 1, 2007, American States Financial Corporation was acquired by Safeco Corp. Previously, American States Financial Corporation was engaged in the property and casualty insurance; and life insurance. Its multiple line property and casualty business included the following types of personal and commercial lines policies: businessowners, commercial multiperil, commercial automobile, workers' compensation, private passenger automobile, and homeowners multiperil. The company conducted its life insurance sales and underwriting operations, through its subsidiary, American States Life Insurance Company. The company was incorporated in 1996 and is based in Indianapolis, Indiana.
