The company also owns and operates optical laboratories, an optical products purchasing organization, and a marketing products and services business. Its optical laboratory business specializes in surfacing, finishing, and distributing corrective lenses and eyeglass lenses for ophthalmologists, optometrists, opticians, and optical retail chains; optical products purchasing organization allows health care professionals to purchase optical and medical products from approximately 275 suppliers; and marketing products and services business provides eye care professionals and vendors with a range of products and services, including brochures, videos, advertising and Website design, education and training programs, and consulting services. In addition, the company provides management services to an optometric practice with an optical retail store located in the Illinois; and an ophthalmology practice with various locations in Atlanta, Georgia. These services comprise business, information technology, administrative, and financial services. As of March 15, 2011, it owned and operated 37 ASCs in 19 states. The company was formerly known as NovaMed Eyecare, Inc. and changed its name to NovaMed, Inc. in March 2004. NovaMed Inc. operates as a subsidiary of Surgery Partners, Inc.
