Union Carbide Corporation engages in chemical and polymer businesses in the United States and internationally. It offers ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol to manufacture monoethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, glycol ethers, ethanolamines, surfactants, and other chemicals and polymers; di-and triethylene glycol for use in boat construction, shoe manufacturing, natural gas-drying, and moisture-removing applications; plasticizers for safety glasses; tetraethylene glycol to produce plasticizers for automotive windows; hydrocarbons, including ethylene and propylene, and internal feedstocks; and licenses and supplies catalysts. The company also provides industrial chemicals and polymers, such as acrolein and derivatives, ethyleneamines, polyethylene, and methoxypolyethylene glycols, surfactants, deicing fluids, and heat transfer fluids for animal food supplements, personal care, industrial and household cleaning, coatings for beverage and food cans, industrial coatings, and other industrial uses; and low-density polyethylene resins to produce hose and tubing, frozen-food bags, and stretch wraps, as well as linear low- and high-density polyethylene resins used in houseware, grocery bags, trash bags, packaging, and water and gas pipes, as well as milk, water, bleach, and detergent bottles. In addition, it offers solvents and intermediates, such as oxo-aldehydes, acids, alcohols, and esters; vinyl acetate monomer, a building block for the manufacture of polymers used in water-based emulsion paints, adhesives, paper coatings, textiles, safety glass, and acrylic fibers; and polyolefin-based compounds for insulation, semiconductives and jacketing systems for power distribution, telecommunications, and flame-retardant wire and cable insulation.
