As of July 1, 2004, FreeMarkets Inc. was acquired by Ariba Inc. FreeMarkets, Inc. provides software, services, and solutions to address the Global Supply Management (GSM) market. These solutions are designed to help companies improve their sourcing and supply management processes, and enhance the capabilities of their supply management organization. The company’s portfolio of GSM solutions includes FreeMarkets FullSource, FreeMarkets QS, FreeMarkets ES, FreeMarkets Spend Visibility Solution, FreeMarkets Supplier Implementation Solution, and FreeMarkets Global Service Solutions. Its customers include buyers of industrial parts, raw materials, commodities, and services. As of March 31, 2004, the company served its customers from 17 locations in 13 countries on five continents. Its team members provide service to customers in 35 languages through operations centers in Pittsburgh and Singapore. Glen T. Meakem co-founded FreeMarkets in 1995. The company was formerly known as Online Markets Corporation; and changed its name to and FreeMarkets OnLine, Inc. It further changed its name to FreeMarkets, Inc. in September 1999.
