Evergreen Resources, Inc.

As of May 4, 2004, Evergreen Resources, Inc. was acquired by Pioneer Natural Resources Company. Evergreen Resources, Inc. engages in the operation, development, production, exploration, and acquisition of unconventional natural gas properties. It primarily focuses on developing and expanding its coal bed methane project located in the Raton Basin in southern Colorado. As of December 31, 2003, the company held interests in approximately 385,000 gross acres of coal bed methane properties in the basin and its net proved reserves in the basin were 1.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas equivalent. Evergreen Resources also has coal bed methane projects in the Cook Inlet-Susitna Basin in Alaska and the Forest City Basin in eastern Kansas. In addition, the company, through its subsidiary, Carbon Energy Corporation, owns properties in the Piceance Basin in western Colorado; the Uintah Basin in eastern Utah; and the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin in south central Alberta, Canada. Additionally, the company markets and sells oil and natural gas to utilities, end users, and energy marketing companies through its wholly owned subsidiary, Primero Gas Marketing Company. The company was organized in 1981 and is based in Denver, Colorado.
