Rio Tinto Alcan Inc. mines and produces bauxite, alumina, and aluminum. It offers aluminum ingots, including rolling slab sheet ingots, extrusion billets, forging stocks, rods, and foundry and remelt ingots, as well as specialty products, such as Duralcan and other metal matrix composites; smelter-grade alumina for use in the smelting process to produce primary aluminum; anodes and cathodes for use in the electrolysis process by which aluminum is extracted from ore; and AP Technology Suite, a power to product aluminum smelting solution. The company also offers bath material and cryolite, and aluminum fluoride products. Its products are sold in domestic and export markets worldwide. Rio Tinto Alcan Inc. was formerly known as Alcan, Inc. As a result of the acquisition of Alcan, Inc. by Rio Tinto plc, Alcan, Inc.'s name was changed. The company was founded in 1902 and is based in Montreal, Canada. It has operations in North America, South America, Australia, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. As of October 31, 2007, Rio Tinto Alcan Inc. operates as a subsidiary of Rio Tinto International Holdings Limited.
